Heaven and Earth Meditation

I was walking in the woods close to a Lake when the concept of this meditation was bestowed upon me through my higher-self. I had never heard of this meditation before. However when I got home, I looked it up and found that this meditation has been practised by many cultures around the globe for thousands of years – sometimes called Earth and sky meditation.

This meditation is about realising that we are an expression of everything that exists on earth and in the heavens, of the divine and mundane, physical and spirit, as above – so below.

Our physical bodies are an expression of the Divine Earth, and our consciousness – personality, emotions, imagination and thoughts are an expression of the Divine Heavens or Spirit. In other words we are the perfect mix of physical and spiritual essence. When these two opposing forces are in harmony we find ourselves in a perfect state of being.

The purpose of the Heaven and Earth Meditation is to balance, cleanse and replenish your Physical and Spiritual energies, by aligning your vibration with the unlimited energies of the earth and the heavens. Side effects from doing this meditation can be observed as follows:

  • Our bodies become healthier and resistant to sickness
  • Our minds become clearer, focused and relaxed
  • We sleep well and dream well
  • Our creative/imaginative forces increase
  • Our emotions become balanced and calm

Before we get into the methods of this meditation, let me remind you what you already know but may have forgotten…

You are an important piece of the puzzle of life, without you - the world would be incomplete, and like a puzzle it would not be able to function correctly. Your presence, actions and thoughts – however seemingly small – affect the entire spectrum of reality including people and other life forms you have never known before. For every action or lack of action, there is a domino effect that ripples across the world and equally the entire universe. You can look into your life, the lives of your friends, family as well as that of the wild life to see examples of this interconnectedness that we all share. This will be detailed in another article at a later date.

The Heaven and Earth Meditation

This meditation is best done outdoors, regardless of the weather – the benefits are enormous. If you live in a warmer climate and are lucky enough to have warm rains – then doing this meditation while raining is great for cleansing yourself of emotional trauma and healing emotional wounds and heartache. I find this meditation is more potent when done in a park/forest with lots of trees, flowers and wildlife - however if you don’t have access to such, it is still very powerful as all the forests in the world are connected.

If done in your garden or somewhere with limited greenery then follow method 2.

Method 1

Find a nice spot amongst the trees and greenery, particularly useful if there are nearby lakes or streams.

1. Stand with your feet firmly planted in the ground shoulder width apart and knees bent slightly. The palms of your hands should be facing towards the Earth with fingers pointing outward.

2. Look towards the Earth beneath your feet as you take a slow deep breath, feel the Earth’s magnetic energy moving upwards through your feet, filling you up and grounding you. The colours of this energy are Red, Orange, Yellow and of course Green (first 4 chakras), we are going to take the energy to the top of the solar plexus. When your lungs are filled hold your breath for the count of 4 heart beats.

3. Straighten your knees as you raise your head and your hands towards the Heavens, looking straight up with open palms facing the sky, breathe out slowly and as you do, feel the energy from the Earth moving up through your chest, arms, head and hands towards the heavens. Hold the breath for 4 heartbeats.

4. Keeping your arms outstretched, palms open and head towards the sky, breathe in slowly – this time feeling the energy from the Heavens coming down through your hands, arms and head into your solar plexus. Hold your breath for 4 beats of the heart.

5. Lower your hands and head – returning to the starting position in step 2 and breathe out slowly allowing the energy from heaven to move downward through the rest of your body, into your lower torso, thighs, calves, feet and into the Earth. Continue with the breathing outlined in step 2.

Repeat steps 2 through 5 until you feel contented. This can take anything from a few minutes to hours depending on your individual needs.

Method 2

The only difference in this method and the first, is that you are going close your eyes, and visualise standing in a beautiful green meadow, surrounded by beautiful trees, flowers, birds and butterflies. Visualise the breeze, the sounds of the leaves rustling gently and the birds singing songs of happiness and joy. Really take your time here to feel everything in your vision coming to life all around you, then proceed as below (copied from above):

Summary:

In this method of the Heaven and Earth Meditation you are passing the energy from the earth through your body and releasing it to the heavens. As this grounding energy passes through your body and spirit, it calms the mind and balances the emotions, while filling us with abundant love and expanding our ability to heal ourselves by strengthening the physical body.

The second part of the meditation is then absorbing the energy from the Heavens, allowing it to pass through us and releasing it into the Earth. As the energy passes through us, it energises and enhances all our mental faculties, expanding our understanding of self and our other selves (i.e other people), and cleansing the body and spirit of all negative energies.

By releasing the energy from the earth to the heavens above you are nourishing/supporting all that is above us, such as the air we breathe, the ozone layer and all the celestial bodies that are apart of us on the macro scale. By releasing the energy from heaven into the Earth, you are empowering the lands upon which you stand and all the surrounding nature with cosmic energy that keeps the micro balanced with the macro. If you continue to do the meditation in the same spot you will notice that the trees and plant life will become more vibrant as the weeks pass assuming you are doing it during the spring/summer months.

During this meditation I always begin feeling light and energetic, I also tend to see the colours when done with eyes closed, on a sunny day I see the flower of life pattern behind my eye lids. Afterwards I always feel refreshed and find that I sleep more deeply the same night. I tend not to feel thirst or hunger for the rest of the day, so you may need to remind yourself to eat/drink as appropriate. We are all wired differently so you may notice other positive effects. Other things to note is that when this is done on a sunny day, you will embody a more masculine energy from the heavens which courtesy of the sun is fiery, promotes courage and decisiveness in our lives. When done under the full moon, you will embody a more feminine energy, which is softer yet deeper, and this can increase your intuitive abilities amongst other things.
